FAMU’s Ahriahna Grizzle named SWAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Year

Florida A&M’s Ahriahna Grizzle made Rattler history, becoming the first to be named the women’s basketball Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Player of the Year. Grizze had a phenomenal season, finishing the regular season with 536 points, becoming the sixth Rattler to score 500 + points in a season, and is currently ranked fifth all-time behind Jasmine Grice (782, 652) and Cathy Robinson (595, 563).

Grizzle led the SWAC in scoring and was the only player to score over 500 points this season. Grizzle also led the league in 3-point field goal percentage (356), 20+ point games (13), and 30+ point games (3). Grizzle also finished ranked second in steals (67), third in field goal percentage 426), seventh in assists (84), and 25th in rebounds (103). Grizzle also added her name to the top of the FAMU record book on February 12, making 20 freethrows in the 71-63 win versus Prairie View A&M. Grizzle became the sixth Rattler to be named conference player of the year since the 1994-95 season, joining Natalie White (94-95), Cathy Robinson (95-96), Kim Watson (02-03), Antonia Bennett (11-12), and Jasmine Grice (13-14).
